First Pharmacy
Constructed in 1870 on the affluent Alexandrovsky Street, the pharmacy holds the distinction of being Gyumri’s first pharmacy and continues to fulfill its role to this day. Originally the residence of the prosperous Khachatur Khalatov, the building was repurposed to cater to the healthcare needs of the community. Legend has it that during the construction of the pharmacy, a local resident exclaimed optimistically, “They’ve barely built it, and we will no longer need to order medicines from Tiflis.” This statement reflects the pride and confidence of the people in having their own local pharmacy, emphasizing the significance of the establishment within the community. The pharmacy’s enduring presence stands as a testament to its historical roots and ongoing commitment to serving the healthcare needs of Gyumri residents.
