Tumo Gyumri
The Tumo Creative Technologies Center has found it’s home in the venerable theatre building, a structure with a rich history spanning 150 years. In 1912, the theatre witnessed the debut of Armen Tigranyan’s opera “Anoush,” marking a significant cultural milestone. Regarded as one of the oldest theatres in Eastern Armenia, its construction was made possible through the contributions of the people of Alexandrapol. The invaluable historical and cultural building underwent a transformative reconstruction, thanks to the efforts of the renowned Lebanese architect Bernard Khoury.
This ambitious project was realized with the support of the “Chon and Hasmik Mkrtician Foundation.” The revitalized structure, now equipped with a versatile stage, a music room, and classrooms, not only serves as a Tumo center but also strives to reclaim its role as a cultural hub for all residents of the city. This adaptive reuse breathes new life into a historic landmark, ensuring that the building remains a dynamic and relevant space for the community. The melding of heritage and innovation in this project reflects a commitment to preserving the past while embracing the future.
